The 80gig model will only be $399 starting in September. That's about the time when I'll be buying an 80gig PS3. I need the Blu-Ray.

lol traitor.

But it is good that Sony finally came to their senses & are making it this price. 2 years too late though imo.

Considering its production price, not too surprising they waited so long. Lowering it to $399 will make it for sure the best blu ray player out there. I need blu ray player too, & the added perk of it also being a ps3 is nice. Too bad my TV only goes to 1080i, I guess I'll live.

production cost thing is a lie. Almost every system ever made is sold at a price below its production value. Companies recoop the costs from the sales of peripherals & other such services. Also companies like Sony & Microsoft do not make the entire console "in house" they aren't even billed for the whole production cost, its spread amongst their subsidiaries who actually built the components.

Sony should have dropped the price a long time ago. they'd bring in less money per console yeh, but more money in the long haul since MORE people would be buying them.
